Your skin is your largest organ and therefore is susceptible to manifesting underlying health problems. We focus on skin health for the whole family that ranges from mild viral eruptions in children, examining suspicious moles in adults to diagnosing and managing severe skin conditions.
The line between medical and cosmetic dermatology can get blurry sometimes. At our clinic, we focus on using safe and proven treatments for facial rejuvenation, pigmentation, photoaging and treatment of scars.
We offer the following services:
What is a chemical peel?
It is a technique of applying a chemical solution to the skin that causes exfoliation.
What are the benefits of chemical peels?
Chemical peels diminish many signs of ageing. They refresh the skin texture, reduce fine lines, diminish skin discolouration giving the skin a smoother look and glowing appearance. Mild scarring and certain types of acne can also be treated with chemical peels.
How is it done?
During these treatments, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, removing old cells and revealing new cells that form a smoother, less wrinkled and more even skin tone. Most patients experience a warm to a hot sensation that may be followed by some stinging. This sensation may last 5 to 10 minutes.
Are there special precautions needed before Chemical Peel treatments?
Products containing retinoids, adapalene or alpha-hydroxy acid creams are not recommended to be used for at least three days pre and post-treatment. Sunscreen should be applied post-chemical peel on a routine basis to guard against sunburn or excessive pigmentation. Waxing should not be done for at least 2 days pre and post-treatment. Isotretion (Roaccutane, Acnetane, Oratane) is contraindicated with chemical peels, you are advised to wait four to six months before undertaking treatment.
How will my skin look after treatment?
Immediately after treatment, the skin may have a reaction similar to having a mild sunburn. You may experience some of the following reactions to the procedure over the next few days-redness, stinging, itching, tightness and a mild peeling of the top layer of skin. Peeling or flaking of the skin generally last 1-7 days based on skin type and nature of the peel used. Use of a hydrating moisturizer and broad spectrum sunscreen daily is mandatory.
How many treatments will I need?
That depends on the skin condition being treated. Usually, 4-10 treatments are recommended 2-4 weeks apart. Typically, although the skin will look and feel refreshed, smoother and softer after one treatment, the most dramatic results show about the fourth treatment.
We offer a variety of chemical peels. Our doctor will determine what peel is appropriate for your specific skin type and concerns.
What is Microneedling?
This is a method of stimulating the skin’s natural ability to produce new collagen and elastin for healthier, younger-looking skin.
Microneedling speeds up this repair process by creating small channels, which also allow products to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin. New collagen and elastin production can reverse years of sun damage, improve acne scars and enhance the overall appearance of aging skin.
Who is a candidate?
One of the most exciting things about microneedling is that it can be used on all types of skin for a wide range of problems, including acne scars and any area requiring cell regeneration or an intense repair process.
What areas of the body can be treated?
This treatment is extremely versatile and can be used on all parts of the body: face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back. This makes it helpful when addressing acne scars and stretch marks.
How is the procedure done?
A numbing cream is applied first for about an hour prior to the procedure so that the procedure will be comfortable. A thin layer of serum is then applied to the skin, and the appropriate treatment is selected for a particular type of skin or condition. Then the pen is glided across the repair area in a gentle motion.
The actual procedure typically takes about 15-30 minutes, depending upon the size of the area treated and the severity of skin damage.
What is the downtime?
Immediately following the treatment, you will notice a healthy pink glow, with areas of redness. The doctor or therapist will recommend products to help your skin’s natural healing process. Total healing time depends on the severity of the damaged skin and the depth of the repair process required. On average, patients are pink for two to four days. Some patients heal completely in 24 hours.
When will I see the results?
Most people notice healthier-looking skin immediately, and the natural repair process of the skin continues to progress over the course of several weeks. Dermal collagen remodeling takes place over time, and it will continue to improve for up to six months after your final treatment. Great results are usually noticeable by the 4th treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
The course of treatment will be determined by our doctor based upon your individual treatment goals and severity of your skin problem. Most patients receive a series of four treatments spaced a month apart. For patients with more severe skin issues, additional sessions may be necessary.
Surgical Dermatology includes biopsies of suspicious skin lesions, the removal of benign growths, skin tags and simple cysts, excision of small moles and basic skin cancers, injection and excision of keloids.
